About Us

Good Plan Productions, LLC, is the father/son team of Duane & Dylan Huey. The company was recently formed upon executive producer Duane Huey’s retirement from Iowa Public Television after 38 years of service.

Duane Huey

Duane Huey

Duane is an Emmy Award winning producer/director/writer with over 40 years of experience in broadcasting & film, primarily in the world of public television. His projects have spanned all genres, including drama, music, documentaries, public affairs, special events, science, sports, how-to, and pledge programming. He has several, long-running, nationally distributed how-to series to his credit. Over the past 12 years he produced and directed numerous PBS-funded, national pledge specials, primarily focused on British comedies, plus a special on the pubs of Dublin. High points include securing the participation, either as interviewees or presenters, of people like Penelope Kieth, Dawn French, Lenny Henry, John Cleese, Terry Jones, Richard Curtis, Geoffrey Palmer, Bob Larbey, Richard Briers, Roy Clark, John Howard Davies, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Dame Judi Dench.

Having filmed extensively in the UK, Ireland and The Netherlands, Duane’s become adept at navigating the challenges of filming in foreign countries and has made numerous friends and valuable contacts overseas. Having worked with APT, PBS, and NETA, as well as numerous independent producers, Duane also knows how to collaborate and satisfy the needs and requirements involved with the national distribution of quality programming.

Duane’s excited about becoming an independent producer along with his son Dylan. While he enjoys traveling, he also loves living and working in Iowa.

Dylan Huey

Dylan Huey

For the past 10 years Dylan has been making a career for himself as a commercial and fine art still photographer as well as a creator of short-form video documentaries. His clients have included Meredith Publications, special niche publications in the craft world, local businesses (from restaurants, to brokers, and a Pilates studio), and the world of climbing (as a professional instructor) and outdoor sports (a personal passion). This past year he’s done numerous projects for the national charitable organization Above & Beyond Cancer which had him filming an eight-person bicycle team of cancer survivors and their support team as they participated in the Race Across America (RAAM) and a larger group of survivors and caregivers as they trekked to the top of Mount Imja Tse in Nepal. He then created short, non-broadcast programs from these adventures that have been used to help raise funds for cancer research, awareness and treatment. Though an admitted “gear-head”, Dylan’s work is also fueled by a belief in the power of images to enhance people’s lives and make the world a better place.

Duane and Dylan formed their company out of a love for the art and craft of telling good stories using the highest quality images and sound. People come first at Good Plan. Whether it’s people they’re filming or collaborating with or serving, the goal is for everyone to feel valued, honored and respected. They believe the process can be fun, too.
